Employee Spotlight May 2020

For our May Employee Spotlight, we are highlighting Director, National Accounts Furrie Steelman. Furrie has been working at The Expo Group collectively for 11 years and has been a part of the National Accounts team for the last 5 years. She began her career at The Expo Group on the Customer Account Management team and progressed in her leadership.

Furrie was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and went to Southwest Texas State (now known as Texas State University) graduating with a degree in Education and as a certified K-8 teacher. People often ask her if Furrie (pronounced Fyur-ee) is her “real” name, and the answer is “yes!” It was her great grandmother’s surname. She has many hobbies in her free time including working on her yard, shopping for cool things for her house and  the shows she works on, family gatherings with her 50 first cousins on her mother’s side, and trying out new places to eat.

Her advice for exhibitors or show management working through this unprecedented challenge with COVID-19 is that communication and flexibility are key. She emphasizes the importance of having constant, ongoing communication with all entities of your work life and all stakeholders in an event. Being prepared means looking into next steps, and flexibility because the “new normal” may take some adjustments.  She says, “Although change is often hard, great things can come with it as long as you wash your hands, wear your mask and stay safe!”
