We are starting him off at a young age! Jackson, son of Lloyd van Meter, Las Vegas GM & Field Ops Director, is ready for whatever comes next.
We love trade shows. We love events. Most of all we love helping people come together to connect, learn, conduct business, get inspired and have some fun.
Maybe Covid-19 is making us nostalgic. It’s certainly a great time for reflection … and for starting something new, like this article series. We asked a few members of the team to share some opinions on their careers and this business to reveal in the coming months. We would love to hear from you, too, just answer the question posed each month in the Comments.
What would you say if your child(ren) wanted to work in this business?
Lloyd van Meter
I try to instill a work ethic in my kids. Nowhere is hard work and commitment any more important than live events. Deadlines are real and people’s livelihoods depend on them. There really is something to fit just about anyone’s make-up, from warehouse to office to show floor. My advice would be to enjoy the diversity in people and challenges, and to learn something every day.

I’m hesitant to answer this question based on what’s going on in the world. A year ago, I would have said ‘if you want to travel and work hard and meet people from all over but never feel like you are actually working, it’s the job for you’. Nowadays, even though I think things will come back, I would advise them to keep all options open.

I would say, define your why. Why do you want to work in the business? What about it feeds your passion, not just any earning potential. Equally important is to finish school before getting in. (I actually had the opportunity to say these words to my son, and, 5 years later, he’s still in and loving it!)

Pre-COVID, I would say traveling is not as glamorous as it appears. But now coming out of COVID I will be saying — traveling is fun and exciting!
