5 Tips for Wellness During Travel in the Trade Show World

Event professionals of all types travel throughout the year, from show to show, and are always on the move. When you’re on the road more than the average person, it’s easy to lose focus on your health and well-being.

Here are some quick reminders of how you can take care of yourself while traveling.

  1. Be Present

At the end of the day, whether you go back to your hotel room or see the local sights, take time for yourself to relax and let go of everything that happened that day. Remember that there could be a chance you may not ever visit this city again, so take it all in and enjoy yourself.

  1. Manage Your Stress Levels

People in the event industry may be very familiar with airports and all that comes with them, but it doesn’t make them any less stressful. The American Heart Association reminds us that “security lines and canceled flights can raise blood pressure in a hurry. Make use of airport yoga rooms, when available, or find a quiet space where you can stretch for five minutes to relax before your flight.”

  1. Move Your Body

While walking on a trade show floor is technically considered exercise, that’s not all you may need to stay well. If you have a workout routine at home, you can make use of your hotel’s gym and not lose that hard earned progress.

Stretching is a simple way to stay healthy and does wonders for your body before, during, and after a long workday. Standing in a booth, walking through a convention center, or even sitting for a large portion of the day can be hard on your joints and muscles. Take a moment to stretch throughout the day or visit your hotel’s spa if possible.

  1. Keep Your Eating Habits in Check

Sometimes there isn’t enough time in the day to eat a balanced meal. If you must, pack healthy snacks or plan to eat something that fuels your body vs weighing it down.

You don’t have to skip the deep-dish pizza in Chicago, and you can still try that new restaurant in Las Vegas, just be mindful of what and how often you’re eating.

  1. Stay Hydrated

It’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re running around a trade show floor. Based on recent studies by Harvard Health Publishing, “most people need about four to six cups of plain water each day.” It may seem simple to remember, but staying hydrated benefits every system in your body and forgetting to drink enough water can eventually impact your overall health.
