Hubs of conversation and activity allow guests to connect at the level where they feel most comfortable and with the areas that are of most interest to them.
Known at Level5 as Engagement Zones, these are not poster sessions or formal presentations, but spatially designed areas of sensory engagement, allowing guests to interact on their own terms. These zones feature tangible items and innovations that make research, education, and student life come alive.
In response to five strategic-plan-related prompts, attendees filled out custom gradient-colored cards and hung them on pegs to create a collage of input. On the reverse side, attendees could learn about the corresponding strategic plan priority. BU is using these responses to shape future alumni programming.
Custom interactive installations allowed attendees to tell their own GW stories in ways that were personal, colorful, and unexpected. Many of these will become pieces of campus art made by the community, for the community.
To start their journey, attendees entered through a portal which led them to six Engagement Zones that integrated key research initiatives with thematic food and beverage offerings that stimulated their minds and fed their senses.
Level5 brought to life a complex VT research project by designing a fun and insightful experience that facilitated thoughtful discussion on the valuable findings of this strategic initiative.
Engagement Zones offered a high level of interactivity and featured depth of content. These sensory-rich, information-packed zones showcased a wide range of topics pertaining to historic artifacts from the college’s founding—such as yearbooks, documents, and vintage athletic equipment—as well as contemporary tokens such as chocolate-covered insects that emphasized the insect research happening at the college. Each area was staffed by a researcher, so attendees could take as deep a dive as they desired, learning even more about the topic at hand.
