IGNITE THE SENSES 

Off-campus events are about meeting key audiences where they are. Literally. But we’ve learned that simply building it is not quite enough to make people come.  

Key to the success of driving attendance off-campus is igniting the same interest, curiosity, and allure sparked by an institution’s home base. What elements of the institution’s tradition, place, research, pedagogy… can we take on the road?  

Hubs of conversation and activity allow guests to connect on the level they feel most comfortable and with the areas in which they are most interested. Known to Level5 as “Engagement Zones,” these are not exhibit booths, poster sessions, or formal presentations, but spatially designed areas of sensory engagement, allowing guests to interact on their own terms. Engagement Zones feature tangible expressions that make research, education, impact, or the student experience come to life.  

VIRGINIA TECH

Following the campaign launch on campus, Level5 and Virginia Tech scaled the event for the road with a multi-city tour. VT visited three cities (Washington D.C., Charlotte, and San Francisco) with about 250 attendees in each, before pivoting to a virtual event (Virginia Beach) due to COVID-19. 

In 2023, VT restarted their campaign tour and Level5 partnered to design and execute a campaign-focused, multi-city tour (San Diego, San Francisco, Dallas, and Austin).  

VT roadshows are packaged programs featuring a local alumni chapter host and remarks from a student, faculty researcher, the president, and advancement representative. The program is followed by a mingling reception with Engagement Zones reminiscent of the launch event.  

GRINNELL COLLEGE

For their Together We Are Greater campaign launch, Grinnell College partnered with Level5 Events to highlight cutting-edge research at home and on the road for a multi-city tour.  

Level5 brought the campaign for Grinnell College to key stakeholders across the country. Each event featured a short program followed by a strolling supper and hubs of activity and was also an opportunity to introduce and highlight new leadership, ensuring presidential purpose and mission were integrated into each gathering.  

For each location, Level5 built a custom stage and backdrop, created hubs for interaction, and provided plenty of seating and tables for those who wanted to connect with fellow alumni in a more traditional style. 

BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Hoping to build momentum and engagement for their upcoming campaign, ensure continuity during a leadership transition, and inform alumni about their strategic plan, Boston University reached out to Level5 Events to design a road show for six cities across the U.S.  

A modular design approach for event installations and scenic assets maximized the BU’s return on investment and ensured adaptability across venues. Ultimately, these alumni events sparked new and reenergized connections, encouraging BU to add a second round of nationwide tour dates to the schedule.
